Coursey Design Consultants
Producing both commercial and residential interiors
since 1976, Coursey Design specializes in turn-key operations -
beginning with the interior architectural design and space planning,
including all elements of interior decoration and finally the
supervising of all phases of construction and installation.
CDC has ultimate responsibility for all jobs undertaken. The general
contractor, architect and all sub contractors are under the direct
control of James B. Coursey, which insures that the chain of command is
orderly - resulting in a strong team and an enviable finished product.
James Browning Coursey
Beginning on Wall Street in the mid-1960's with the U.S.
Trust Co. and The First Boston Corporation and moving uptown to "Wild
Bill" Donovan's law firm (Donovan, Leisure, Newton & Irvine) and
Jock Whitney's personal foundation offices, James B. Coursey has for
over 30 years provided distinguished office design throughout corporate
Manhattan.
Immediately after Parsons School of Design, JBC was a designer for
Theo. Hofstatter & Co. (New York City's oldest design firm), whose
location has given way to the Trump Tower.
After starting Coursey Design Consultants in 1976, JBC has enjoyed a
reputation for bringing projects in on time and within the intital
budget, which has been a major factor in keeping clients returning to
Coursey Design for more than thirty years.
James B. Coursey is well schooled in American and English 18th and 19th
century styles, and has extensive knowledge of the major American trade
sources, and those of London and Paris. JBC has consulted frequently
with the Winterthur Museum, the Metropolitan Musem, SPNEA and
Strawberry Bank on matters of period authenticity. Conversant with
French and Continental styles, JBC also has working experience
producing contemporary interiors.
Among the recognizable residential credits in New York City, JBC has
designed apartments for Sullivan & Cromwell's Mr. & Mrs.
William Ward Foshay, Time Inc.'s Mr. & Mrs. Roy E. Larsen, Dyson
Kissner Moran's Mr. & Mrs. Robert P. Dyson, Dr. Anne E. Dyson,
CBS's Mr. & Mrs. Thomas H. Wyman, and American Airlines' Mr. &
Mrs. Albert V. Casey.
Further afield, residential clients include the Greenwich, CT home of
Mrs. Donna Brace Ogilvie of Harcourt Brace, and the New Hampshire home
of Mr. & Mrs. E.G. Nicholson - collectors.
